Veterinary Surgery
Surgical Services for Dogs & Cats
At Creston Veterinary Hospital, we provide surgical procedures to support the well-being of your dog or cat.
Our team understands that the idea of bringing your pet in for surgery can be nerve-wracking. But rest assured that we only suggest it when we believe it is the best option for your beloved pet.
We want to make sure you understand why we recommend a specific surgery for your pet, and that you feel well-informed and comfortable when deciding to move forward with the surgery.
Surgical Procedures
At Creston Veterinary Hospital, we can perform medical and urgent surgeries to help treat diseases and conditions in pets, as well as to repair injuries caused by accidents or trauma.
Our veterinarians may perform or refer out the following surgical services:
-
Soft Tissue Surgery
Soft tissue surgery includes a variety of procedures for the ears, nose and throat in addition to mass excisions and wound care. Soft tissue surgery may be used to describe almost any surgical procedure that isn't classified as orthopedic surgery.
Hepatic, urogenital, oncological, cardiothoracic, gastrointestinal, and skin disorders are among the conditions treated by soft tissue surgery.
-
Spaying & Neutering
Spaying and neutering are widely used to sterilize pets, prevent illness and increase the lifespan of dogs and cats.
-
C-Sections
We perform cesarean sections to surgically remove puppies or kittens from their mother's uterus. Veterinarians typically perform C-sections when the mother is unable to give birth naturally.
-
Ocular Surgery
Veterinarians perform ocular surgery to treat eye conditions in dogs and cats. Common procedures include removing eyelid tumours, cataract surgery, ectropion surgery, entropion surgery, exenteration of the orbit and cherry eye surgery.
-
Mass Removal
Masses can develop on or just under the skin or within a body cavity, and some masses can pose serious or even life-threatening risks.
-
Foreign Body Removal
Pets sometimes ingest foreign objects, and these objects can become stuck inside their bodies. Our veterinarians can perform foreign body surgery to remove an object your pet shouldn't have eaten.
-
Wound Repair
Living tissue can sustain wounds when it is cut, broken, burnt, torn, or otherwise damaged. Veterinarians must clean, disinfect and appropriately care for these wounds as soon as possible to avoid infection and other complications.
-
Orthopedic Surgery
Orthopedic surgeries correct injuries and conditions of the bones, ligaments, joints, tendons, and other skeletal structures in pets.
-
Dental Surgery
Our veterinarians perform dental surgeries to relieve pain and restore good oral health in dogs and cats. These surgeries can range from tooth extractions to gum disease treatment and jaw fracture repairs.
The Surgery Process
Before the surgery, we will make sure to conduct a comprehensive pre-surgical assessment. We'll start by giving your pet a thorough physical examination, and performing some blood tests. These tests will help determine if there will be any potential risks or anesthesia-related complications.
During surgery, a dedicated nurse will administer anesthesia so your dog or cat is asleep and feels no pain during the procedure. They also track your cat or dog using electronic patient monitoring equipment.
Following surgery, our priorities are post-operative monitoring and providing medication for pain management. In addition, your veterinarian will provide detailed instructions for at-home care.
Sterilization Protocols
At our clinic, we have dedicated surgical suites that are meticulously maintained to ensure a sterile environment. This helps us prevent infections and cross-contamination, keeping our patients safe and healthy.
Our staff always wear sterile attire in the surgical suite. Additionally, we take great care in cleaning, sterilizing and wrapping our surgical instruments and equipment before each surgery.
