Cat & Dog Wellness Exams
The Advantages of Routine Checkups for Cats & Dogs
Are you a proud pet owner who wants to make sure your furry friend stays happy and healthy?
Regular checkups can help keep them healthy and catch any potential health issues early. During these visits, your veterinarian will make sure your dog or cat is up-to-date on vaccinations and give them a thorough physical examination to ensure they are in good health.
By scheduling routine checkups, you also allow yourself the opportunity to discuss any questions you may have about your dog or cat's behaviour or diet with your veterinarian.
This open line of communication can help give your veterinarian insight into your pet's daily life and allow them to catch any potential issues and ensure that your pet receives the necessary care and treatment.
Taking proactive steps to ensure your pet's well-being can lead to a longer and happier life for them, so schedule their next checkup today.
What to Expect During an Exam
During their routine exam, the veterinarian will perform a thorough physical checkup on your dog or cat to obtain a comprehensive picture of their overall health.
Your vet will also check whether your dog or cat is due for any routine vaccinations or preventive care.
After completing your dog or cat's exam, the veterinarian will take time to discuss any concerns they may have about their overall health and talk to you about their nutritional requirements.
At our veterinary clinic, we typically examine each of the following elements of your pet's health during checkups:
-
General Condition
The general demeanour and physical condition of a pet can provide vital clues to their overall health. The way your pet stands and walks, their level of alertness and whether they are at a healthy weight for their size all indicate their overall health.
-
Coat & Skin
During a pet's checkup, the veterinarian will examine their skin and coat for signs of problems, including excessive oiliness or dryness, lumps, bumps, dandruff or abnormal hair loss.
-
Face & Head
We will examine your pet's eyes, ears, and nose during their checkup to look for any abnormalities or unusual discharges in these areas.
-
Teeth & Mouth
An examination of the teeth and mouth will be performed to look for symptoms of oral health concerns, such as plaque buildup or periodontal disease that may require dental care.
-
Internal Health
Your pet's heart health relies on essential elements such as heart rate and rhythm, pulse and blood pressure. We will check these to ensure they are normal. We will then examine the lungs to check for abnormal breathing.
The lymph nodes will be checked for pain or swelling. We will also examine the abdomen to ensure the intestines, kidneys, bladder, spleen, liver and stomach all feel normal and that your pet is not exhibiting any signs of discomfort.
Checkups for Puppies & Kittens
Proper medical attention is essential for puppies and kittens during their first few weeks of life to help get them off to a healthy start. Our team will conduct a thorough physical examination of your new canine or feline friend and administer vaccinations and deworming medication as necessary. We will also conduct tests for intestinal parasites.
Once your puppy or kitten's first checkup is complete, you will need to bring them in periodically for their required booster shots.

Checkups for Seniors
As dogs and cats enter their senior years, regular examinations play an increasingly important role in ensuring their continuing good health and longevity. Your veterinarian will be particularly watchful for signs of potential age-related conditions, such as diabetes, arthritis or decreased vision during their wellness exam.
We may recommend additional lab testing for aging pets to get a more detailed diagnosis of their condition and to offer a more targeted treatment plan.
