FAQs About Large Animal Services
-
Which animals can you treat?
We treat horses, cattle, sheep, pigs and goats.
-
What can I expect at an appointment for my large animal?
During a check-up, the veterinarian will typically begin by conducting a thorough physical examination. This may involve checking the animal's vital signs, such as heart rate and temperature, as well as examining their overall body condition and any specific areas of concern.
Additionally, the veterinarian may perform diagnostic tests such as blood work or imaging to further assess the animal's health and detect any underlying issues.
-
Do you make farm calls?
Yes. We make farm calls for emergencies as well as routine health and reproductive issues such as pregnancy checks, vaccinations and deworming. Our team of veterinarians is equipped with the necessary tools and medications to provide comprehensive care for your livestock.
-
Can you assist with reproductive health needs?
Yes. We are trained in monitoring and managing the reproductive health of large animals.
We perform artificial insemination, conduct pregnancy diagnoses, and provide obstetric care. Additionally, we can administer hormonal treatments to regulate estrus cycles and enhance fertility in large animals.
-
Are you able to perform surgery?
Yes, our veterinarians perform a number of surgical procedures on large animals. Some common surgical procedures include castrations, joint surgeries, and tumour removals.
-
Will my animal need anesthesia? Is your staff trained to administer anesthesia to large animals?
Yes, your animal may need anesthesia at some point during treatment. But rest assured that your veterinarian will be skilled in the administration of anesthetics to large animals.
The anesthetic requirements of your large animal will vary depending on its size, breed and the surgical operation being performed. We can advise you on how much anesthetic your animal will require based on its conditions, and we will require you to sign a consent form before giving any anesthetic.
-
How long before I can have my animal return to its regular routine?
Your veterinarian will provide advice on when to resume your animal's regular routine based on the details of the surgical procedure or your animal’s specific needs.
