Creston Veterinary Hospital Externship Application Form

Position Description:

Depending on your location, you may choose to complete an externship for credit or take the opportunity to meet our team of doctors and support staff, immerse yourself in our clinic culture, and explore the beautiful West Kootenays. We’ve had students from across Canada and as far away as Scotland participate in our comprehensive externship program, designed to provide veterinary students in their clinical year(s) with experience working in the Creston Valley’s only emergency mixed animal practice. We welcome your visit and are enthusiastic about helping you maximize your learning opportunities.

Whether you already have an inclination for mixed animal medicine or you’re unsure of what area you’d like to practice in, this is the perfect opportunity to gain first-hand experience in all aspects of veterinary medicine. From pocket pets to companion animals, livestock and wildlife, veterinary students will be exposed to a wide range of species and working environments. Students will work closely with veterinarians and support staff to monitor cases, participate in daily rounds, assist nursing personnel, assist with laboratory work, develop treatment options, communicate with clients, join in diagnostic and surgical procedures as required, and participate in necropsies. Students will also have the opportunity to ride along during farm and house calls and gain critical exposure to emergency calls during regular and out-of-office hours.

Eligibility:

Successful Applicants should be:

  • Currently enrolled in a veterinary program and in their clinical year(s) of veterinary studies at the time of their stay in Creston, British Columbia
