Animal Physiotherapy
Creston Veterinary Hospital is thrilled to announce our new collaboration with Joanna Sleik, MScPT!
K9 Rehab is designed to provide rehabilitation services based on veterinary referral.
Background: Joanna graduated from McMaster University with a Masters in Science in Physiotherapy in 2005 and has worked in the Kootenays ever since. She has also completed her acupuncture certification through the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute. She completed both the Introduction and Advanced Canine Rehabilitation Courses at the Canine Fitness Centre in Calgary in 2012 as well as continuing education courses in Advanced Spinal Manual Therapy and Canine Myofascial Release and Acupuncture. She is also a member of the Animal Rehab Division of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association.
Canine Rehabilitation Services:
Therapy goals include:
- Enhancing or helping to regain an animal’s previous level of function following injury or surgical intervention
- Alleviate pain or movement dysfunctions in geriatric patients
- Help manage chronic or acute neurological-related symptoms
- Provide gait or conformation assessments
Rehabilitation Techniques include:
- Education for client owners regarding tissue healing, post-operative guidelines, appropriate exercise
- prescription and re-enforcing veterinary instructions
- Soft tissue massage & myofascial release techniques
- Manual therapy mobilizations and assisted stretching
- Neural mobilizations & traction techniques
- Therapeutic exercise prescriptions
- Laser therapy
- Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES) & Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS)
- Bracing/assistive devices recommendations
